Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions families ask most often. Still wondering about something? We're only a message away.
General
Each activity announcement will include the date, venue, fee, age range and booking details for that particular session or workshop. New dates are announced on Instagram first. If no date has been announced, you can still send us a general enquiry, but there may not be a confirmed activity open for booking yet.
Start with the age range, theme and format in the activity announcement. You are also welcome to tell us your child's age, interests and anything that may affect their participation. We can explain what is planned so you can make an informed choice; no single activity will suit every child in exactly the same way.
Yes. We welcome enquiries about private events and group sessions. Tell us the children's approximate ages, group size, preferred dates, possible venue and what you hope the children will experience. We will let you know what may be possible.
Please tell us about allergies, access needs, sensory preferences or anything else that may affect safe and comfortable participation. Materials and setups change from one activity to another, so contact us before booking if you need to check a specific ingredient, material or accommodation. Please do not assume an activity is allergen-free unless this is expressly confirmed.
Sensory play
No. We choose age-appropriate materials, and some activities may involve taste when suitable, but not every material is intended to be eaten. Caregivers stay close and supervise their children throughout. Please tell us about allergies before attending and ask about a particular material if you are unsure.
No. A child may use a tool instead of their hands, watch from nearby, return to one favourite activity or decide not to touch a material at all. We do not force participation. Watching, pausing and taking time to become familiar with the space are all valid ways to join in.
Yes. Caregivers remain present throughout the experience, sharing the play and providing the familiarity and reassurance young children need. Each booking must include at least one attending adult for every three children.
Possibly. Children can approach the space gradually and choose how they participate, but every child's needs and every session setup are different. Contact us before booking with the relevant details. We can explain the planned materials and environment and discuss whether that particular session is a good fit.
We provide the activity materials and take care of the setup and cleanup. Wear comfortable clothes that can cope with a few splashes and marks. Check the activity announcement for anything specific you need to bring.
Workshops
No. Nurture Craft, Nurture Skill, Nurture Curiosity and Nurture Nagomi are scheduled separately. Each announcement will name the workshop family, theme, age range and format being offered.
Please follow the age range in the workshop announcement. It reflects the content, materials, pace and level of challenge planned for that event. If a sibling falls outside the stated range, ask us before booking rather than assuming they can join; suitability will depend on the particular workshop.
Usually not. Workshops are places to learn and practice, and children are not expected to arrive already knowing how to complete the activity. If a workshop builds on an earlier session or requires a particular skill level, that will be stated in its announcement.
Not necessarily. Some workshops have something tangible to take home, while others centre on an experiment, discussion, scenario or shared challenge. In creative workshops, children may begin with the same theme and make very different work. The activity announcement will describe any specific outcome families should expect.
About us
No. Nurture Play offers sensory play experiences and educational workshops; it does not provide clinical assessment or therapy. Play can support many areas of development, but our sessions are not a replacement for individual advice or care from an appropriately qualified health professional.
No. Our child-led approach is influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, particularly its view of children as capable, curious participants in their own learning. Nurture Play is not presented as a school or as a complete Reggio Emilia programme.
Nurture Nagomi is led by Nurture Play's main teacher, who holds a Nagomi Art instructor certificate from Japan. The certificate relates specifically to Pastel Nagomi Art; it should not be read as a clinical or therapeutic qualification.
